Ship or Extinct ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website and service available at ship-or-extinct.com.
We are the data controller for personal information processed through the Service.

Account information: email address, public username, founder name or profile name, chosen dino, optional bio, optional social links, and account access data.
Startup information: active startup name, optional startup description, optional startup URL, launch status, shipped status, extinct or fossilized status, and public launch links you submit.
Challenge information: commitment data, countdown start date, launch deadline, remaining time, challenge status, and whether you shipped before the deadline.
Payment information: payments are processed by Stripe. We may receive payment status, customer identifiers, checkout session data, invoice data, and billing metadata. We do not store full card numbers.
Authentication and security data: login codes, magic-link data, session data, IP address, device information, and security logs needed to operate and protect your account.
Usage information: we may collect analytics data to understand traffic, page views, referrals, product usage, and general behavior inside the Service.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Provide and operate the Service
- Create and manage your account access
- Verify that you paid for access
- Send login codes, magic links, and transactional emails
- Run the commitment setup flow
- Save your founder dino, public username, and startup commitment
- Calculate and display your countdown and deadline status
- Display your public founder profile
- Show shipped, active, extinct, or fossilized status where applicable
- Process payments and manage paid access
- Prevent abuse, enforce our terms, and keep the Service secure
- Improve the product and understand how it is used
4. Public founder profiles
Ship or Extinct is built around public accountability.
If you create a public founder profile, certain information may be visible publicly, including:
- Your public username
- Your founder name or profile name
- Your chosen dino
- Your active startup name
- Your optional startup description or URL
- Your challenge deadline and countdown status
- Your shipped status
- Your extinct or fossilized status
- Your previously shipped startups if shown by the Service
- Your optional X or LinkedIn links if you add them
Public pages may be accessible at URLs such as:
/f/your-username
Information you choose to make public may be indexed by search engines, shared by other users, or captured outside the Service.
You are responsible for the information you choose to make public. Public accountability is part of the Service.
5. Optional social links
The Service may allow you to add optional social links, such as X or LinkedIn.
If you add a social link, we may display it on your public founder profile or use it to support public accountability features.
You can choose not to add social links.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information with service providers that help us run the Service, including:
- Stripe — payment processing and checkout
- Email providers — login codes, magic links, and transactional emails
- Authentication providers — login, account security, and session management
- Database and hosting providers — storing and serving application data
- Analytics providers — understanding website and product usage
- Storage providers — storing files if file uploads are supported by the Service
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate abuse, to enforce our terms, or in connection with a business transaction such as a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
7. Retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service.
We may retain certain records for longer where required for legal, tax, accounting, security, fraud prevention, dispute-resolution, or compliance purposes.

Public information, such as your founder profile, shipped status, extinct status, or challenge history, may remain visible if it is part of the public accountability nature of the Service, unless deletion is requested and legally required.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information.
However, no online service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your email, login codes, and account access secure.
9. Your choices
You may be able to update some of your profile, startup, and social link information inside the Service.
Some information may not be editable after commitment, including your chosen dino and active startup once the countdown has started.
You may email us to request access, correction, deletion, or export of your personal information, subject to legal and operational requirements.

10. International transfers
We may use service providers located in different countries. This means your information may be processed outside your country of residence.
When information is transferred internationally, we take steps designed to protect it in line with applicable law.
11. Children
Ship or Extinct is not intended for children under the age of 13, or under the minimum age required in your country.

12. Changes

If we make material changes, we will post the updated version on this page and update the "Last updated" date.
